Skechers’ Distribution Center is a 1.8 million square foot warehouse and offi ce complex which resides on an 88 acre site adjacent to the SR-60 highway in Moreno Valley. Skechers’ goal was to consolidate fi ve existing separate buildings into one enormous building(the largest tilt-up building west of the Mississippi). With a mandate to achieve LEED ‘Silver’ Certifi cation (anticipated), the building and site boasts numerous green features, including rooftop solar panels, natural light and ventilation, recycled materials and solar reflective paving to reduce solar heat gain. The drought tolerant plant palette was carefully selected and designed for a significant reduction in water use, delivered by a state-of-the-art, satellite controlled irrigation system. The designers and LEED Accredited Professionals at MLA collaborated closely with the client and design team to develop a bold, cohesive design that not only reinforces Skechers’ “edgy” and “forward thinking” philosophy, but will also reinforce the sustainable image that Skechers has embraced.
